We wanted to return to a previous discussion we had with the group about recipes. This includes recipes that were personal to them, what recipes will be included once the Dining Room is open, and what recipes they would like to include from the Touchstones collections. We also wanted the group to think about how these cards could look, what should be included and how they might be presented.

The group were sharing stories and memories about their jobs and families related to their chosen recipes. We all learnt a little more from one another. We spoke about various recipes, discussed how different foods have different cultural significance, and when this food maybe eaten – for example, sweet rice would be served at a wedding or on Eid.

We discussed food from different heritages, how they are cooked, prepared and when they would usually be eaten. Everyone contributed and included at least one recipe and had some ideas on how the recipe cards should look. The group also shared different ideas of how the recipe cards could be displayed for people to take them away.

We also decided what recipes we could include from our local history collections that will sit along with all cases, which can then be refined in the future. Great progress has been made together – the next steps are to test and try these recipes together in a test kitchen!
