New Culture Quest Challenge launches this week

Rochdale is currently Greater Manchester’s Town of Culture. To mark the award, Your Trust has worked with other organisations in our local cultural education partnership to create a Culture Quest Challenge for families to take part in over the summer holidays.
The activity encourages families to get out of the house and explore 25 cultural locations in central Rochdale. Parents and carers can register for free, then use their phones to ‘check in’ to locations on the Culture Quest map and collect points. The most places they visit, the more points they collect which means more opportunities to win prizes.
The challenge starts on Wednesday 23 July and is aimed at families with children aged 7 – 11. The challenge will end on Sunday 31 August and prize draws will take place on Monday 1 September.
Families who have collected 90 points or more will automatically enter the Bronze prize draw and have the chance to win:
- 3 x family tickets to Fireground Museum (one ticket per winner)
- 4 tickets to a family tour of Rochdale Town Hall on Sunday 7 September
- 10 x Active Travel goody bags (one bag per winner)
- £20 WH Smith voucher
- 1 set of children’s books
Families with 180 points or more will also enter the Silver prize draw which has these prizes:
- 1 circus skills set from Skylight Circus Arts
- 1 Rochdale Town Hall goody bag
- Arts bundle from Royal Exchange Shopping Centre
- 1 family ticket (2 adults + 2 children or 1 adult + 3 children) for Aladdin at Middleton Arena on Friday 28 November, 7pm
- Free family bike check with Your Trust
- 2 x £20 The Works voucher (one voucher per winner)
- 1 hamper of art materials from Touchstones
Families who collect 250 points or more automatically enter the Gold prize draw and have the chance to win:
- 1 family ticket (2 adults + 2 children or 1 adult + 3 children) for The Wizard of Oz at Heywood Sports Village on Saturday 13 December, 2pm
- 2 family ticket for a 25-minute Hollingworth Lake passenger boat trip for up to 6 people (children must be accompanied by an adult)
- 4 x REEL Cinema tickets (4 tickets per winner)
- 1 Instax Mini 12 instant camera
- Free group scooter/bike session for your school, provided by Your Trust
- 1-hour free music lesson with Rochdale Music Service
The locations on the map include street art, statues, public parks and venues that families can go inside like Rochdale Central Library and Rochdale Pioneers Museum. Families who visit all 25 locations on foot will have walked at least four miles and visited local green spaces – keeping active and supporting their wellbeing.
The digital Culture Quest map includes information about each location and conversation starters to encourage families to learn together over the summer holidays. The challenge also encourages children to share their own creativity by submitting a photo of a piece of artwork or a poem they’ve written in response to the places they’ve visited on their Culture Quest.
For families who don’t have regular access to the internet or want more time away from screens, there are printed Culture Quest guides available to pick up in local libraries and family hubs across the Borough.
The challenge has been developed by Rochdale’s Cultural Education Partnership (Create Rochdale) and funded by the Arts Council Place Partnership Programme with support from Your Trust, Rochdale Development Agency and Rochdale Borough Council.
