Update: Friday 20 June

Thank you for your patience following our last update regarding the closure of Middleton Arena due to the incident at the neighbouring building.

Our thoughts are with everyone directly affected by the fire, and we’re grateful that despite the scale of the situation, no injuries have been reported.

Access to the venue and surrounding area remains restricted on the advice of emergency services, and we are currently unable to confirm when it will be safe to return. The health and safety of our staff, members and customers is always our highest priority and we will only re-open once we are confident it is safe to do so.  At present, the earliest possible re-opening is early next week, though this is not guaranteed.

We have made every effort to contact all members and customers directly by email or telephone as we have had to cancel swimming lessons, gymnastics lessons, group exercise classes and sports bookings.

If you are due to attend one of the events taking place over the weekend, we have been in contact with each event organiser who will update you directly.

If you would like to use the gym or swim tomorrow, alternative Your Trust leisure centres are available at Heywood Sports Village, Littleborough Sports Centre and Rochdale Leisure Centre.

We remain in regular contact with the fire service and Rochdale Borough Council and will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.

Thank you for your continued patience and understanding.

Please continue to check back here or the Middleton Arena Facebook/Instagram pages for the latest information.

Update: Thursday 19 June

Due to the ongoing incident at a neighbouring building, Middleton Arena remains closed today (Friday 20 June).

While Middleton Arena itself has not been directly affected by the fire, the secondary impact of smoke throughout the building has significantly affected air quality, making it unsafe for public entry. At this stage, we are unable to enter the venue until the fire has been fully dealt with by the emergency services. Once it is safe to return, we will begin ventilation work to clear smoke from the air ducts and atmosphere. However, due to the size of the building, until we can gain access, it is unclear how long this process will take.

We sincerely apologise for the continued disruption and appreciate your patience and understanding while we work to ensure the venue is safe to re-open.

We have made every effort to contact all members and customers directly by email as we have had to cancel swimming lessons, gymnastics lessons, group exercise classes and sports bookings.

If you would like to use the gym or swim today, alternative Your Trust leisure centres are available at Heywood Sports Village, Littleborough Sports Centre and Rochdale Leisure Centre.

We are continuing to liaise closely with the emergency services and Rochdale Borough Council and will keep you updated with any further developments. Please continue to check here or the Middleton Arena Facebook page for these updates.

Thank you for your continued support.
