Due to essential repair works on both pools at Middleton Arena, the pool area is temporarily closed, re-opening Monday 20 October 2025.
We have recently been experiencing some technical issues due to tiles becoming detached at the bottom of both swimming pools. We’ve tried our best to make temporary repairs, but to ensure a safe and high-quality experience for everyone, a full resurfacing of both pool tanks is now absolutely essential. This work requires the pools to be completely drained.
We understand that closing the pools, especially for this length of time, will cause some frustration. With a busy pool programme all year round, there’s never an ideal time to carry out these works, however, we’ve carefully considered the impact on all our users. By undertaking this work now, we can minimise disruption to our school swimming lesson programme (as the works are taking place in non-term time), which are a vital opportunity for many children to learn this essential life skill, and can for some children be the only opportunity they have to learn to swim.
Please note that the Sauna and Steam Room will also be closed during this time as it will not be possible to access them from poolside whilst the works are taking place.
Our aim is to support the local community to stay active and healthy, so while the pool is closed, the rest of the centre remains open as normal and we’ll have a range of activities in place throughout the summer to help families stay active and engaged.
The gym, group exercise classes, sports bookings, gymnastics, holiday club and all non water-based activities are unaffected.
If you’d like to continue swimming during this time, alternative swimming pools are available at Heywood Sports Village and Rochdale Leisure Centre.
