We wanted to keep you some essential maintenance work coming up at Middleton Arena. As you may be aware, we’ve been experiencing some ongoing technical issues due to tiles becoming detached at the bottom of both pools. While we’ve worked closely with specialists to monitor and repair the problem where possible, we’ve now reached the stage where a full resurfacing of both pool tanks is required.
Working alongside Rochdale Borough Council, we’ve secured a contractor to carry out this essential work, which is scheduled to take place from 14 July to 19 October 2025 (pools will re-open on Monday 20 October). Unfortunately, this means that both pools will be closed throughout this period.
During the closure, for those roles that are directly affected – our Leisure Attendants, Swimming Teachers, and Aqua Fitness Instructors, we’ll be looking to support you in working across our other centres where possible. The rest of the centre will remain open as normal, so other roles will not be impacted.
We wanted to share this information with you first so you have time to process it and ask any questions before we notify members and customers. Until then, we kindly ask that you do not discuss this with users until we have communicated to them formally, which will be done via email, social media and in centre posters.
To help us plan effectively and ensure we support everyone affected, please take a few minutes to complete the questionnaire via the link below by 30 March 2025.
We will also be holding team meetings for those directly impacted, where you’ll have the chance to ask any questions:
Tuesday 8 April, 6 – 7pm
Thursday 10 April, 1 – 2pm
Following these, we’ll arrange individual meetings to go through specific circumstances and plans for the closure period.
We understand that situations can change, so if any of your responses in the questionnaire change, please let your Line Manager know.
Thank you for your cooperation and support – we really appreciate it!
