Explore Urban Nature is a national, three-year project supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and delivered in partnership with the Natural History Museum.

We work with partner schools to increase awareness of urban wildlife and habitats, with the aim of protecting and increasing local biodiversity. We do this by delivering both indoor and outdoor workshops, sharing events, and activities linked to the British Science Association’s CREST awards.

For the 2023/2024 school year, pupils are taking part in visits to Touchstones’ Arts & Heritage Resource Centre to learn how we classify animals and what this can help teach us about different species. They are also getting out into Broadfield Park to have a go at pond dipping and tree identification, and taking a trip to Manchester Museum to learn about entomology – the study of insect life.
