Touchstones is Rochdale’s local arts and heritage organisation, caring for a cultural heritage collection of over 100,000 objects and 2,500 artworks. From Ancient Egyptian artefacts to items connected to Rochdale’s industrial history, our collections tell the story of the borough and the people who have lived here.

We are now inviting five local residents to join our Community Collections Development Panel for a one-year term (April 2026 – March 2027).

About the Panel

The Community Collections Development Panel brings together Touchstones staff and members of the local community to help shape how our collections grow and develop.

The panel meets every two months at the Arts and Heritage Resource Centre to:

  • Consider donations offered to the collections
  • Discuss whose stories are represented and whose may be missing
  • Explore how collections can be used in exhibitions, events and activities
  • Help ensure the collections reflect the diverse people and places of Rochdale

Our collections have been developed for local people since the 1870s. It’s vital that today’s community has a voice in deciding what we collect and how we share it.

Who Can Apply?

We are looking for people who:

  • Live in Rochdale borough
  • Are aged 16 or over
  • Can attend meetings and take part in the programme

No previous experience of museums or collections is required. We welcome people who are curious, interested in Rochdale’s stories, and keen to contribute their perspective.

  • An introductory session and collections tour
