This charter is one of the earliest documents in the archive collection. Written on vellum in Latin, the charter has a brown wax seal depicting a pentangle, a piece of straw is knotted around the seal tag. The straw represents the ancient ‘delivery of seisin’ when the grantor would present a turf from the land being granted to the grantee in the presence of witnesses.
