We’ve got some exciting news… our brand-new workshops have arrived, and they’re ready to take our Discovery Boxes from “that’s interesting” to “WOW, can we do that again?!” Think less sitting still, more doing, a dash of creativity, a sprinkle of history and just the right amount of controlled chaos (don’t worry, the fun kind).

What’s New? Let’s Take a Look 👀

🛡️ Anglo-Saxons Workshop

We step back in time to explore the Anglo-Saxons… and surprise, they’ve been hiding in Rochdale all along (well, their place names have!). Children uncover local links, have a go at crafting their own wonderfully weird Kenning poetry and then try their hand at braiding.

🧵 Cotton is King Workshop

Rochdale’s industrial past gets the spotlight as we explore how cotton helped shape the town, the landscape, and everyday life. Then comes the real challenge – weaving. Suddenly, that T-shirt you threw on this morning feels a lot more impressive, doesn’t it? Warning: May cause a newfound respect for anyone who has ever woven anything… ever.

🎖️ World War I Workshop

After exploring the realities of trench life, children create their own trench art keepsakes. This powerful workshop gives children a glimpse into life in the trenches—the sights, sounds, and stories of World War I. It’s thoughtful, creative, and just might spark a few “I’m glad I live now” conversations (which is always a win).

🪨 Rocks, Minerals & Fossils Workshop

Science meets mess (our favourite combination). Children explore the different properties of rocks and minerals, learning how to observe and catalogue them like real geologists. Then comes the highlight: Making and excavating their own fossils Don’t worry, we’ve sped up the process slightly. No one has to wait a few million years… we checked, and that didn’t fit into the school timetable.

🌿 Coming Soon… The Maya Workshop

Our next adventure is nearly here! The Maya workshop is getting ready to launch and promises more hands-on fun, fascinating history, and excellent creative outcomes. Stay tuned, this one’s going to be worth the wait.

Why These Workshops Are a Big Deal

These sessions aren’t just about learning, they’re about:

  • Getting stuck in (literally, in some cases… fossils, we’re looking at you 👀)
  • Making local connections (because history happened here too!)
  • Building creativity and confidence
  • Having fun while learning (sneaky, but effective)
  • Paired with our Discovery Boxes, they create a full-on learning adventure—from opening the box to diving headfirst into the experience.

Ready to Dive In?

We’re incredibly proud of these workshops – they’re engaging, creative, and packed with moments that children will remember, and hopefully talk about all the way home.

So whether it’s braiding like an Anglo-Saxon, weaving like a mill worker, digging up fossils, or crafting trench art, there’s something for everyone.

And best of all?

👉 No boring bits.

👉 No sitting still for too long.

👉 Definitely no waiting millions of years for results.

Just brilliant, hands-on learning… with a few laughs along the way!
