The community curators hosted another addition of No Such Thing for this year’s Side by Side festival! This year’s festival theme was belonging so the group decided to go with this as the theme to create the menu of questions.

The group met with Renny from Quarantine ahead of the event to create a menu of questions around belonging. The starters act as prompts for something from the past, the mains are questions about the present, and the dessert acts as something for the future.
The Community Curators discussed: do we feel we belong where we live, in our community or families and what it means to the group to belong. We spoke about belongings and what we wish we might have still had from childhood, and what the most precious thing we own is. The group shared stories, memories and experiences on belonging. As the discussion was underway the group formed the questions, we revisited them multiple times to ensure they felt right.
We all met the following week to have a rehearsal; this is to ensure that the questions sit right with the group. If any of the questions feel too difficult or disruptive them, they are changed at this stage. Once this was done, we were ready for the festival!
We had 8 of the Community Curators as hosts and they sat with 16 strangers over the course of two sittings and shared conversations. It is always a little quiet to begin with as introductions to one another begin and the free food and drinks are being served. But within a few minutes the hum of conversations grows, and bursts of laughter filled the Side-by-Side marque.
The Community Curators said they had some wonderful conversations, made connections and some people even exchanged numbers. Would like a free lunch, have a conversation with a stranger and have a unique experience? We will be hosting another No Such Thing in Haywood Market at Daisys Café on the 22nd October.
