I am currently employed as a casual housekeeper at Middleton Arena. I am diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and learning difficulties.
Before gaining employment, I spent 18 months (from October 2024 to March 2026) completing a work placement at Middleton Arena. During this time, I was a student with both Bridging the Gap (New Bridge College) and Future Finders (Future Finders Employability College).
During my work placement I had the opportunity to meet new people including both staff and customers, while learning and developing my skills and understanding of the business. I also gained hands-on experience of completing a variety of tasks. These included setting up equipment for activities such as gymnastics, soft play, chair exercise, badminton and pickleball, as well as helping to keep the whole arena clean and tidy.
I have really enjoyed working with different team members to achieve common goals for the business. I especially enjoyed helping to provide a high-quality service for all of our customers, always working to the highest standard and aiming to go above and beyond their expectations.
It has taken me time and effort to get to here I am now. Through my strong work ethic, dedication and commitment to help others I was given the opportunity to interview for the casual housekeeper role. I did a lot of preparation work by completing a mock interview with my college to give myself the best chance for my interview. I achieved a score of 34 out of 40 (over 85%) and was successful in gaining paid employment. Since then, I have continued to develop my skills further by completing a training plan for this job role.
