No Such Thing invites you to take part in a simple but powerful experience: a one-to-one conversation between people who might not otherwise meet. Each encounter is shaped entirely by the two people at the table: unfiltered, unrecorded and uniquely yours.

Hosted by our Community Curators from The Dining Room project, this is your invitation to share a free lunch in exchange for a conversation.

We’ll be hosting a series of No Such Thing events across Rochdale over the next year, leading up to the reopening of the building and launch of The Dining Room. No Such Thing is a project partnered with Manchester-based ensemble Quarantine, an ensemble of artists and producers who are united by an interest in everyday life.

What to expect

You’ll be welcomed into a relaxed, friendly setting and paired with one of our Community Curators. You will then:

  • Sit down with a stranger
  • Share a meal together
  • Choose from a list of thoughtful prompts
  • See where the conversation takes you

Each lunch lasts 30 minutes: a short but meaningful moment to connect.

Lunch will be provided, with options to suit different dietary needs including vegetarian, halal, and gluten-free choices. The menu will draw inspiration from traditional Ukrainian cuisine, featuring dishes such as varenyky and borsch.

Why take part?

This is a chance for two people to converse who might not otherwise meet: an encounter between strangers, shaped, experienced, and remembered by those two people alone. You might leave with a new perspective, a good laugh, or just a simple conversation that could stay longer with you than you expect.

Where

The event will take place on Sunday 10 May at the Rochdale Ukrainian Club, 15 Mere St, Rochdale OL11 1HJ between 12pm – 2pm and is a free event.

Booking

Places are very limited, and each guest is paired one-to-one with a host. Because of this, it’s important that you only book if you can attend and able to take part in the experience. When you’ve completed the form, you’ll be invited to a half hour timeslot between 12 – 2pm.
