In our pilot year, facilitators used artworks from our ‘A Tall Order!’ exhibition as a starting point for conversations on the core themes and questions of the project.

Singer, songwriter Matt Hill used artworks, including Sonia Boyce’s She Ain’t Holding Them Up, She’s Holding On, Some English Rose, 1986 to help children explore the questions: Who am I? and Who are we? The partnered classes worked collaboratively to create and record their own song.

Ceramicist Angela Tait used artworks created by Lubna Chowdhary to develop a session exploring the questions: Where do we live? And how do we all live well together? The sessions were delivered by artist Babs Smith. Each child made and decorated their own 2D ceramic tile, after considering what they loved and would like to see more of in their lives.

The finished tiles were put on display at Touchstones in a similar style to Lubna’s work, and schools were invited to visit to explore the artworks whilst listening to their recorded songs. You can listen to the recorded songs below!
