Over the past year each of the commissioned artists have been working on their respective projects. We spent this week making short films interviewing Aliyah Hussain, Camara Pinnock and Ibukun Baldwin sharing how their projects have developed.
Aliyah Hussain’s work on the multi object installation has seen her share skills in ceramics from simple slab building to making press moulds and decorating with glazes. She delivered workshops for the Feel Good Family Picnics, where nearly 1000 people contributed to making decorative sprig moulds, pressing clay into food shaped moulds before popping out and painting with glaze. Aliyah is using each of these sprig moulds in her final installation, attaching them to ceramic cups, plates and decorate loops which will be suspended above The Dining Room before being distributed back into the community after a number of years.
Camara Pinnock has worked with the community curator group, discussing foods that hold particular meanings and memories and recording them making some recipes together. The audio from these conversations will accompany her digital portraits of the group that will be installed in the Dining Room window, echoing the original stained glass portraiture of the building when it first opened.
Ibukun Baldwin worked with a group of young people at Matthew Moss Youth Centre to develop a large scale curtain installation. The curtain will create a colourful and lively backdrop to The Dining Room and an enclosed area for family activities and workshops.
