The Rochdale Borough Active Awards, formerly known as the Rochdale Borough Sports Awards, recognise and celebrate the contributions and achievements to sport, physical activity and helping the local community to be active.

Celebrating those who have gone above and beyond over the past 12 months and work tirelessly to support individuals or community clubs, for the love of the sport or their community.

Active Travel Champion

Awarded to an individual or group who are devoted to reducing the barriers to active travel in the borough, either through campaigning for infrastructure improvements or inspiring and enabling others to walk, wheel and cycle more within the last 12 months.

Club/Group of the Year

Awarded to a community club or group with the most notable success, whether that is performance, community engagement or overall impact in the borough over the last 12 months.

Coach of the Year

Awarded to a sports coach who has made a significant difference with a team or individual in the borough over the last 12 months, showing dedication and endeavour.

Community Sport Project of the Year

Awarded to a project that recognises the importance of how physical activity and social inclusion helps to make a difference in the local community.

Disability Physical Activity Champion

Awarded to a person or group who has created opportunities for, and encouraged, people with a disability to be more physically active, or to a disabled sportsperson or team who has had noticeable success in their chosen sport in the last 12 months.

Instructor of the Year

Awarded to an instructor who has made a significant difference with a session, group or individual in the borough over the last 12 months, showing dedication and endeavour.

Lifetime Achievement Award

Recognising an individual who has sustained excellence, professionalism and has made transformative contributions (over a minimum 10 year period) to a local sports club, group or class.

School Commitment to Physical and Mental Wellbeing

Awarded to a school that has gone above and beyond to incorporate physical activity into a school day, whilst also promoting and supporting mental health and wellbeing for their pupils and/or staff.

Unsung Hero

Awarded to an individual who works hard behind the scenes to create significant opportunities and provides invaluable contributions to a club, group or individual within the wider community over the last 12 months.

Volunteer of the Year

Awarded to a volunteer or volunteer coach who demonstrates commitment to their role and has gone above and beyond to support an individual, group or the wider community over the last 12 months.

Young Person Talent Recognition of the Year

Awarded to a young athlete (aged under 18), who is not professionally funded, who has had significant success in their sport at minimum county level over the last 12 months.
