A discovery!

One of our volunteers discovered a few rather beautiful and colourful serviettes made from Japanese tissue from the early 1900’s in the Co-op archive she was looking through and listing.

These were produced as souvenirs commemorating events and were printed on Japanese paper.

These are from Middleton & Tonge Industrial Society’s Annual Festivals and printed on them are the Annual Reports of the Society for the past year.

The lovely napkins are however very fragile, and a discussion was had how best to preserve them. After consulting with the Greater Manchester Conservator it was decided they could be housed in specialty polyester pockets.
