A tour round the historic town hall rumoured to be Hitler’s favourite!
One of the Town Hall Volunteers led the group around the newly restored Town Hall, taking the volunteers to each of the rooms and gave a detailed history about each one.
She pointed out the people who were in the paintings on the wall and their significance to the Town Hall and She spoke about many of the important people who attended the Town Hall since it opened in 1877.
The group were shown many features of the décor, such as the detailed work on the walls was actually painted on and not wallpaper and about the intricate detailed figures and angels that held the wooden beams up in the great hall as well as the beautiful stain glassed windows (including one of them being dedicated to queen Victoria).
The guide also showed the volunteers the toilet that was specially made for Queen Victoria but was never used by her!
The tour concluded the tour by a visit to the newly restored Court Chambers where they learnstories about people who were stood in that very room for some of the crimes they had committed and the punishments they received.
