Touchstones Picturehouse: Pride (15)
Join us for the third Touchstones Picturehouse screening – a mini season of films which will move, inspire and entertain you.
Pride (2014) is already a classic British comedy-drama, depicting the true story of a group of lesbian and gay activists who supported the British miners' strike in 1984.
With a cast of some of the best British actors, including Imelda Staunton, Bill Nighy, Dominic West and Andrew Scott, Pride follows the activists as they travel to a small South Wales community, winning over the locals and sharing their experience to help the miners organise.
Pride is warmly comic without ever losing sight of the life-changing effects of the strike and the looming AIDS crisis, and let's not forget the soundtrack of 80s gay anthems – from Bronski Beat and Frankie Goes to Hollywood, to Heaven 17 and Pet Shop Boys.
Content warning: this film contains occasional sexual references, depictions of homophobia and strong language.
